Good news
Rob is with me. :)

We're going to Nova Scotia in August to look around. See if we like it. See if there's some land we can find. We wouldn't be moving there immediately, maybe not ever. But we'll have the land, if we like it there, and once we can afford it, we'll build on it.

I brought up a lot of things. Quitting our jobs, selling the house, and moving there. If we already owned the land, we could use the profit from this house to build a nice one up there, without a mortgage. With no house payment, we could afford to earn less. We'd need enough for the land taxes, and for food and heat and such. I think we could do it.

Rob is not opposed to the idea of dropping out for a while. Following a dream. I even brought up the communal farm that some people are putting together, and he didn't react badly to it.

I think that if you take time to do something you've always dreamed of, and it doesn't pan out, you can go back. Explain that you took that time to write a novel, to do anything interesting, really, and employers will understand, as long as you aren't in a supercompetitive field. I'd have no problem if I had to come back, anyway. I don't think Rob would either.

So. The way is open. I can't tell you how much better I feel, knowing that Rob's with me on this. I can't wait to see Halifax.

Good for you. Yes this is always the scary thing. It might be an uphill climb to get back where you were but it is possible. I hope Nova Scotia is everything you dream of!

Yay! Best of luck. Even if it doesn't work out, I think you'll be happier for having tried instead of always wondering.
