Why beauty is unachievable
http://www.iwanexstudio.com/

Click on "Portfolio." Check out the before and after pics. You might need to go back and forth between them quickly to get a good feel for the differences.

Penelope Cruz. Body reformed. Upper arms filled out, oddly enough. Hair erased and skin lightened.

Reese Witherspoon (or is that Kirsten Dunst?) Freckles removed. Eyes brightened.

Kelly Clarkson. Slimmed down. Jaw redefined.

Cameron Diaz. Hipbones removed. Lower arms filled out. Ass made bigger. (What does that say about the thin-is-everything worldview?)

They've taken out sternums, nipped in waists, arched backs to a nearly impossible degree.

It's really true. No one looks like this.

Thin comes second to hip to waist ratio? :)

Good god... That's awful. Those women are most beautiful when they're natural.

Oh god yeah. I will say, as much as the whole body image thing is worse in LA than in most places, you also learn really quickly here that celebrities look pretty much like real people - just tinier - in real life.

I knew about this, but I hadn't seen such clear before and after pics. Apart from the slimming and eliminating of unsightly bulges (yes, Beyonce, I am looking at you - if that was Beyonce - they all looked kind of the same after retouching, and I'[m not that good on celebs at the best of times), I'm struck about how skin tone gets automatically changed. All the pictures are lightened, with contrast added so features come in sharp relief, and they appear to shine with inner light; and they turn their freckels/wrinkles/pimples/scars into flawless complexions.

It's kind of scary, actually...

i thought it was interesting that they ADDED weight to some of them (julia stiles most noticeably)

i had a picture of me air-brushed once. it was pretty crazy - i mean it was GOURGEOUS but wasn't really ME.
