If you haven't heard of Open Source Ecology, and you're interested in fabrication and post-scarcity economy, you really should check this out. Basically, the Factor E Farm is the testing ground for their Global Village Construction Set, a set of 50 machines that allow for the creation of a small-scale civilization with modern comforts. See Marcin Jakubowski's TED Talk to get a feel for the plan.

OSE is trying to get all 50 machines designed, prototyped, and tested by the end of 2012. So far, 1 is done, with 3 releases and 8 prototypes expected to be finished this year. They are looking for people who have the skills to help, whether on-site or remotely. I don't have the knowledge or skills myself, but I know a lot of people on my flist do. If you are interested in working on this project, please check out the materials and contact the group.

If, like me, you don't have the skills they need right now, you can support them financially by becoming a True Fan.

I'm involved on the True Fan level, and I'd really like to see this project succeed.
