Random updates. Many more planned.

1. We're leaving Friday for Thanksgiving in Milwaukee. This is awesome because Saturday night I am going to see Hanson. Even better, I'm going with friends of Rob's who are my age, so I won't be the only non-mom there who's over 20. Whee! I'm stoked for this show, because since the last time I saw them, I've listened to their second album, which is also very good. I can't force myself to listen to the first, or to the Christmas album, because they're just soooo young, and their voices are so high. :) Mmm-Bop is all well and good, but I much prefer what they've become.

2. We closed on the old house yesterday!! Once we get the check, we'll have enough money to pay off immediate debts, plus some to save, plus some to live on until we get jobs. *squee!* And the best part is that we have about 35% equity now in the current house. Hot fucking damn. And I just love this house. I love the weird layout, I love that there's room for 2 to cook in the kitchen, I love my sewing room and its bathroom, I love the furniture we have. I love that I haven't worked since July and we're still not bankrupt. I know I have to get a job eventually, but this break is just wonderful.

3. I have found out that I was born when Mercury was retrograde. This means, apparently, that the current retrograde is good for my communication abilities. Awesome. :) And, as firesignwriter explained to me, I also do okay during non-retrograde times, because I had to develop translation skills to cope with everyone else. So hee. :) /spacecake

4. I love my new neighborhood. Not only is my house beautiful, there are many other beautiful houses all around. When I have time, I'm going to walk around and take pics of all the pretty houses and parks around here.

5. In 2007, I am going to be decorating all Christmas Victorian like crazy. This year we don't have enough money to buy decorations, and also we're still unpacking. Next year, Christmas is in Milwaukee. But the year after, oh man. :) I've already started making ornaments with my excess ribbon and fabric. In two years, I should have enough to decorate an entire tree. This makes me so happy, because I'm making pretty stuff, I'm using ribbon that I've had lying around for 5 years, and I already own it, so it's free! And of course, I will post pictures once I get more ornaments done.

6. The sad part of the update: My baby sister, J, has been dating the same guy since she was 17 or so. (She's 25 now.) Earlier this year, they bought a house together and got engaged. The wedding was set for January 8. Several weeks ago, the wedding was postponed, due to problems he was dealing with that came out of the premarital counseling. Last week, her wedding dress and invitations arrived. Last Friday-- he left her.

She is so devastated. They were planning on starting a family in a year. She had her wedding all planned. She LOVED him so deeply. Last night we were sitting together, and she just started to sob. My poor sister.

7. So as not to drown in empathy, I am going back to the happy stuff. I'm going to make stockings for Rob, Saffie, and myself. Quilted, of course. God, I love making things. I also bought the Martha Stewart Christmas cookie magazine, and will be making mad cookies. :D I tried shortbread last week. Stupidly, I left out the nuts it called for, while neglecting to add more flour to compensate. I don't think shortbread is supposed to be greasy or look like lace. :) Rob liked it, though. I'll have to try again with a better flour/butter ratio.

8. My pastor in my new (old) church spoke out against torture from the pulpit this week. I love this man. I love this church. I am so happy to be back. More on my current religious leanings another time.

9. Junebug is still playing in one theater down here! I am going this week with mom and possibly J. Mom is also an OC fan, and I really think she'll love the movie.

10. I haven't done much on my Sims project, mostly due to unpacking and Christmas preparations. I'll spend some more time on it soon.

I think that covers most of it for now. I'm going to go do looking-for-work stuff so I can make more ornaments tonight. :)

SO glad things are going well for you! That just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Give a big hug to your sister from me, ok? She didn't deserve that crap, she's a sweetheart.

She totally doesn't deserve it. :( And it kills me that she's hurting so bad, and there's nothing I can do. She wants to be with him, and can't accept that he doesn't want to be with her.

As for the happy stuff, thank you. :) I am enjoying it, as there have been very few times in my life where everything's felt right. *happy sigh* Now if only we could get all unpacked, life would be sweeeeet.

Can't find a stamp, by the way. I'm not holding your money hostage, I promise! I'm going home next week for Thanksgiving, and home is a land where stamps wander free in the wild, so I'll snag 'em then and send it off. SO SO SORRY about it taking so long! :-( *shakes fist at living in a city with no post office near by*

Send her my love along with that hug, too. If there's aught I can do, lemme know. I could make something for her, maybe?

We're leaving Friday for Thanksgiving in Milwaukee.

O.O!!!! Is there a day you won't be doing anything or anything, because I'm only an hour and a half away from Milwaukee and would LOVE to come see you or something :) *hugs tight*

*facepalms* Did I meet your sister last Christmas? I'm so sorry that happened, no one deserves that... *hugs her tight*

It is soooo wonderful to hear you happy!

That's so awful for your sister. I can't even imagine. I know it's better to do something before the wedding rather than after, but that's hardly any consolation.

Congrats on the house! Hopefully things are coming together. Are we long-distance neighbors now?

It sounds like you're going for a cold Native American Cultural Annihilation Day. Brrrrrrrrrr! But it should really get you in the hoiday mood.

Good luck with all the transition. Never a dull moment!

Congrats on all the happy news! You richly deserve it.

I'm sorry for your sister, but if it helps, my brother is totally going into the Bad Boyfriend Hall of Fame. He and his girlfriend dated for twelve years, and the day before they were set to move in together, as a precursor to getting married, he backed out. She was like a member of our family -- I thought my mom would never forgive him -- and he was almost as upset: he put it off for so long because he didn't know how to end it or what his life would be like without her.

Fast forward to two years later: my brother is happily married to a woman he adores, and his ex just got married to an equally wonderful guy a few weeks ago.

It won't help her now, but sometimes things do work out for the best.

"Sometimes things work out for the best."

I second that.
