I am always amazed and delighted when something we plant actually grows.

We plowed up the backyard earlier this summer. Unfortunately, the clover we planted didn't take, but the weeds certainly did. So we ripped some up, covered up others, and planted corn to take advantage of the second warm season in Florida.

Corn with cardboard and mulch around it:

Another few weeks and we can plant the beans and squash. Man, growing stuff is COOL. Next year we're planting open-pollinated corn, so we can save an ear to plant the year after.

(Hey Rob, I think we need to wish put a jack-in-the-box into the cornfield...)
I can hear: Disturbed, "Devour" (our corn!)

Yay! It's so satisfying getting to eat home-grown goodies. I have just been loving eating things from our new gardens this year. It was definitely a learning year and I expect we'll have more yield next year. Tonight I plan to make zucchini bread with one of our massive zucchs! :)
