Why cereselle?
Ceres because of who I am. Elle because it's my name.

I like to feed people. I like to take care of them. Ceres is one of the Great Mother's names, and while I'm not biologically a mother, nor ever want to be, I like to be motherly.

If you're reading this... why did you choose the LJ name you have? How does it fit you?
Jess Nevinsratmmjess on October 4th, 2004 11:40 am (UTC)
I chose "ratmmjess" because "ratmm" stands for rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc, the online home of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and my first Internet stomping ground, and a place I still have very fond memories of. "jess" because it's my name, and "ratmmjess" because it's a combination nobody but me will ever use.

I remember it well. :) Those were excellent days. Are you still in touch with any of the other ratmm regulars? T-Bone? Christine?

God, I miss that show.
Jess Nevins: bemusedratmmjess on October 4th, 2004 12:20 pm (UTC)
You were on RATMM? What name did you go by?

No, T-Bone and I were never close, and Christine M. ...er...well, I'm sure she'd be just as happy never hearing my name again. (Break-up gone -very- bad).

But a bunch of folks on my Friends list are RATMMers. Former ones, anyhow.

I miss the show, too. But we'll always have the tapes. :-)

Elle. Ellya. Andlorr. Lorelle. :) We met at the Conventio-Con in 96. And then I went to library school. :) I got off the librarian underground listserv a while back when I went on vacation, and just never resubbed.

I'm sorry to hear about Christine. Yikes. *shuts up now*

The person who gets clean copies of the tapes and digitizes them will have given the world a great gift. Hmmmmmm....
Jess Nevinsratmmjess on October 4th, 2004 01:21 pm (UTC)
Lorelle! I'm sorry, I should have remembered. Ooof. I feel silly now. :-)

No reason to feel bad about the Christine thing. Not something I've ever mentioned before--no real reason to, at least not in a public forum.

I haven't been on librarian underground for a while now. Too darn busy with the book.o

Got my one and only screen name from a friend when I was about 15 years old. It's stuck, and a few folks don't know me by anything else. The odd spelling (extra "s") is for numerological reasons. I think you already knew that story, though, yes?

Love your screen name, sweetie. Suits you beautifully.
Elle: Sinkingtheletterelle on October 4th, 2004 12:18 pm (UTC)
Thank you, darlin. :) I actually didn't know the story at all. I always thought it was odd, given that you're a cat person, not so much a wolf person. I do like the double s, though.

I've had so many screen names I've lost count. Heh.
Ari: mmmmm...skiniamari on October 4th, 2004 11:53 am (UTC)
Mine is rather dorky. Actually, a lot of people tend to think it's something cool and Elvish because LOTR was my first fandom. Really it's I Am Ari because..well...I am. *G*
Elle: Check out my pickuptheletterelle on October 4th, 2004 12:20 pm (UTC)
Hee! I did figure that out, but only because I knew your name was Ari. And it took me a while. I'm not always terribly bright.

Hey, the first screen name my husband saw from me was my name spelled backwards. THAT is dorky.
Dana: keith hamilton cobbthirdsouthobbi on October 4th, 2004 05:09 pm (UTC)
Y'know, for the longest time, I was one of the ones who thought your sn was Elvish, because I knew you by another name?
Mer: enduringfreedomstakebait on October 4th, 2004 01:50 pm (UTC)
No deep thought, really. I was playing Spike in an RPG. He needed an email address. Every concieveable permutation of Spike, William, and the Bloody had been taken, so I picked this, and then quick snagged the hotmail account. So then when I got an LJ to do Buffy Stuff, it seemed like an obvious sobriquet to choose. Of course, now I'm stuck with it for life. :)
fangirlsays on October 4th, 2004 01:51 pm (UTC)
Mine's probably the dumbest SN ever. First four letters of each of my kids' names:

Hannah and

I came up with it right after Collin was born; before that I was something silly and StarTrekish on AOL

Bwee. Koneko41 is a combination of a nickname a friend gave me in high school (and that has stuck with me in various incarnations): Koneko, the Japanese word for Kitten. Uh-huh. And 41, because at the time one of my favorite songs ever was #41 by the Dave Matthews Band. Still is one of my favorite songs, really.

*licks you*
Dana: ass wiggle (mimi_na)thirdsouthobbi on October 4th, 2004 05:22 pm (UTC)
It's dorky...

When I got my LJ, I lived on the third floor of a dorm named South Bergstrom, but everyone called it South. The one next to it was North Bergstrom, aka North. So that's thirdsouth.

Obbi was because LJ cut off the first and last letters of "Hobbit", which was what my roommate at the time called me. If I'd gotten the name I wanted, it would have been "thirdsouthhobbit".

But I like thirdsouthobbi, it's cuter.

As for my other journals...

smut_polar_bear, my fic journal, is because when I created it, I was part of a writing group called the IHOS, or International House of Smut. We all had smutting animal nicknames, like hummingbird, wolf, koala, hamster, penguin, kitten, etc. I was the polar bear.

burning_ice was a fluke. It was because I was talking to someone who totally loved Iceman/Pyro in X-Men as I was trying to create the journal.

My private journal is because it's something I want to be.

On GJ, my public journal is the name of one of my favorite songs by Shinedown, lostin_thecrowd.

On JF, my public journal, which I only really use for commenting and tagging, is red_lightning, because I was watching a lightning storm when I made it.
Becca Abbottbeccaabbott on October 5th, 2004 02:08 am (UTC)
I just wanted something I could remember, dammit! Anyway, Becca is almost my real name, and Abbott was the name of a lady I used to babysit for.

An unintended consequence of the name, however, is that I sit on the top of alphabetized lists. *chortle*
Madame Blue aka Pygmentsweetmmeblue on October 5th, 2004 06:22 am (UTC)
So, when I was in college I was dating this guy who was at Brandeis University. He was a dork and no one believed him that he had a girlfriend. Especially a GF who matched my dimentions. They referred to me as the figment GF. Why figment? well, every time I'd visit he'd be unable to find his friends to introduce me. We'd scour the campus and couldn't find anyone. Finally one weekend, just before I was leaving, we were in the caff having brunch and there came in all of his friends.

"Oh! So you're the figment GF!"
"I'm not a figment. I'm a pigment, blue in fact."

And the spelling mutated from there. It's been spelled many ways.
_fran_ on October 5th, 2004 02:43 pm (UTC)
-Fran-, short for Francesca... which actually is my real name, but one of my middle ones that no one ever calls me by in real life. And the - on each side, just to make it stand out a bit ^^
