ARGH

First: I took a bath yesterday. Since then, my right ear has been completely plugged. It's like I'm underwater ALL THE TIME. Earwax? I tried q-tips, I tried earwax dissolvers, but nothing works. Next up is getting one of those blue syringe bulbs to squirt water in my ear and get whatever it is out. After that... I guess I should go to the doctor to get it unclogged. But no insurance right now, so that will cost $. Gah.

Second: I'm trying this thing. I heard that if you stop washing your hair, after about 2 months it gets shiny and perfect and full of body. Well, hell, I'm not working, so I thought I'd try. It's been 3 and a half weeks since I washed my hair. And it feels disgusting. It's always greasy, always tangled and hideous looking. I'm grimly holding out. I have nothing to lose but 2 months of ickiness. And if it's true, that would be cool, and when else am I going to try this?

I clean it every few days with baking soda and water, rinse it with vinegar and water. It's pretty cool; the vinegar makes the baking soda fizz. I feel all hippie and earthy. But I'll be glad to give it up and have gorgeous hair, if this really works.

I went shopping with my gorgeous sister today. Not a good thing when your ear is plugged, your hair is greasy, and there are no shops with cute clothes that fit you. Discouraged, I hit Jo-Ann's and got some patterns and fabric. Fuck the manufacturers, I'm gonna make my own damn clothes, and they will be adorable and sexy and fit me. Tomorrow.

My hair will still be greasy, though.

I have also been growing out all hair that I normally shave. I've spent days now waxing it. My underarms are almost completely smooth (I have to give them a couple days in between rounds to recover) and will remain so for weeks. Way cool. My legs are not there yet, but they will be. I might keep up the hippie cred and let the leg hair grow out again. I love the feeling of the wind in my leg hair. :) Underarms, though, will be smooth forever. That's not a giving-in-to-female-subjugation-by-society thing. I think men should wax under their arms too. I wish Rob would, but he's a wimp about pain for aesthetics' sake.

I'm considering waxing the muffin, too. I don't particularly like the way it looks, but it would be nice to be all clean and smooth.

Re hair ickiness, I wonder if braiding it would help? Or if it needs to be loose for this thing to work? I have no idea. If I braided it, I would want to add extensions (I think I figured out how) because again, it's something I can do because I'm not working. And having waist-length braids would be SO FUCKING COOL. What do y'all think? Would anyone local be willing to help me with that? kierajeng, nixieq, boadiccea, fenriss, acogswell, joanarkham, muse_neko, anyone else? It would be cool. And I would be free of greasy angst for a couple weeks. And I would also do something nice for whoever helped me. Bake cookies, perhaps. Or sew a sachet with lavender from my garden.

(a) To uplug ears: Blow air out your nose but hold your nose and mouth closed.
(b) On waxing The Private Party: You better have an iron solid will to do it yourself. My aunt tried at home and the pain was so bad, she couldn't go on. Then her husband had to cut it out, tiny piece by tiny piece, with wee little scissors.

Also? Retention of underarm hair means greater retention of underarm smell. Shaving enables me to use less deodorant, which is cool.
Elle: Dude awesome!theletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:34 am (UTC)
Yes! Banish underarm smell! :)
And The Clocks Were Striking Thirteen: Bloody Hell_redpanda_ on August 10th, 2005 10:56 pm (UTC)
A) OH GOD NO. What the hell?! You think she hasn't tried that? I've had this too, and usually it means you have an earwax plug stuck to or over your eardrum.

Try the squirty thing, Remy, but if that doesn't work you may have to see a doctor; it can get infected. :( Also, the "not washing the hair" thing? Uh, that's how to make dreds...

As for the muffin: it's hell growing back in, I've heard. Utter hell. Best not to unless you plan to upkeep -- or suffer. *G*
i_aldarion on August 11th, 2005 07:02 am (UTC)
IT ITCHES OMG. Never. Ever.
Just don't.
Unless you're willing to put up with OMFG itching like FIERY LITTLE ANTS CRAWLING ALL OVER YOUR MUFFIN. FOR DAYS.
*twitch*
Plus the ingrown hairs, and the pimples, and the ow...

Just don't. XD Trust me. I know.
Elle: Holestheletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:37 am (UTC)
You know from waxing, or from shaving? I've done shaving, and NEVER AGAIN OMG. Is waxing no different? If not, forget it.
i_aldarion on August 11th, 2005 07:51 pm (UTC)
Never done the full muffin, but I've done strips off the edges. *eyes cross* First of all- it HURTS. Second- it's not as bad as shaving, no, but it's still effin' bad.
Elletheletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:37 am (UTC)
a) Well damn. I'll keep up the squirty thing and hope for good news on the insurance front. Rob's trying to get me on his. Otherwise, I'll have to bite the bullet and go to the clinic.

b) Only if you leave the braids in for months. I just want them in for a couple weeks, to see how they look. :) I always have to be so corporate. This is my time to play.

c) I've shaved, and yeah, absolute hell. But I think waxing might be different. I hope.
Elle: Gracetheletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:23 am (UTC)
a) I tried that. No luck. I'm scared I'll blow out my eardrums if I do it any harder.

b) I think I could handle the pain. It's the growing back in that I'm not sure about. Also, reaching it all. How far in do you go? How far back? It'd be great to get everything, but I can't see over there. :)

sure, i'll help. Fun Hair Day! besides, i still need to give you some serious cleaning time. howsabout friday? (for the cleaning, at least.) my tooth is feeling better, and god help me, i might even be able to normalize my sleep schedule for a while, now that i've got one less thing to worry about.

as for the muffin, i agree about the "iron will" bit. it can be hell growing back in the first couple of times, but if you keep it up, it's not so back. and it's actually not so bad growing back w/ the waxing vs. the shaving -- it's soft new hair growing in, vs. blunt old hair growing more. but it can itch like HELL the first day or two.
Elle: Gaspingtheletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:25 am (UTC)
Woo! Friday is awesome for cleaning. That'll let me sew tops and skirts today without feeling guilty.

Damn, I was hoping with waxing it wouldn't itch so bad. Shaving is hell. I'm never doing that again. But I thought yeah, with the soft new hair it wouldn't be as bad.

<3 that icon. :D

Muffin waxing: if you go that route, let me know how the growing back in factor is versus shaving. Smooth muffins are nifty (although I do also like the whole french postcard V-marks the spot look, and sport it proudly) and once in a while I think abotu shaving again. Except that I have to do it more than once a day not to go completely insane.

Hair: It didn't *look* greasy when I was over there, but I've got no concept of time, I remember you describing the vinegar process (also a nifty way to clean your drains, btw -no joke!) and that it wasn't stinky. Headbands, maybe? A jaunty chapeau?

Rob's underarms: chain his ass down without a safeword. :D

Yeah, I've done shaving and OMG NEVER AGAIN. That's one reason I want to try waxing, to see if it's any better.

The hair thing, I've been tying it under bandannas, but sometimes they fall off. I'm desperate to keep it off my neck and to keep it mostly hidden. I may have to go to turbans. Right now, it's in pigtails.

Rob loves me very much, but he might not forgive me for that. :) Especially since I've found this process needs several days to do properly, to let the skin heal. I don't think he'd like being chained down for that long. :)

I've been wanting to try underarm waxing but my hair is too coarse to surrender easily to wax. Leg waxing has been spectacularly unsuccessful in the past. T_T

I'd love to help you out with braids but I'm inept in all areas of hair care. ^^;; If you can't find anyone else though, I'll ask around and see if anyone can braid Caucasian hair. It's a bit more tricky but not impossible. ^__~
Elletheletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:30 am (UTC)
Hmm. This wax I'm using is working quite nicely, but my hair's pretty fine. Still, I recommend it. Surgi-wax, in the red and white box.

I bet my hair is easier to braid now that it's not clean. I've idly braided strands, and they actually stay in rather than slithering apart. This hair thing's pretty cool, which is why I want to keep up with it.
i_aldarion on August 11th, 2005 07:04 am (UTC)
Also: Apparently, re not washing, this is what Ville Valo does with his hair. And it IS pretty nice. So. Go for it :-D
Elle: Fatetheletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:31 am (UTC)
Oooh! All the girls like Ville. :) Okay, four and a half weeks to go. I'm almost halfway there.
i_aldarion on August 11th, 2005 07:52 pm (UTC)
You can do it! (I'm interested to know how it works out. According to Ville, you get all greasy and nasty, then your hair gets all dry and gross, and THEN, after that, you even out again. and it's all nice.)
Fenrissfenriss on August 11th, 2005 07:39 am (UTC)
I am absolutely into helping with the hair! I have no fear of unwashed hair. It actually kinda givse me warm memories of my hippy upbringing :)

And I think the braiding and extension stuff would be tons of fun. I want to learn more about it. We should make it a girl party thing. But is it OK of E comes? He's practically a girl!

Just give me a call or email re: when and where. best to try me at msfenriss AT gmail DOT com. *smooch*
Elle: Zerotheletterelle on August 11th, 2005 09:33 am (UTC)
Ooooh, hurrah! Yes, when I said hippy earthy, I thought of you. :)

Yay hair party! I have to order the hair first. I'm going to do mostly natural, but a little wild color. What do you think? Blue, pink, green, red?

And I would never exclude E. I would love it if he'd help. Besides, he'd have some really good idea to make the process more efficient or secure. :)

*kisses you violently*
